Metric top Twilight

Metric, “Youth Without Youth”

Synthetica, June 2012

Proving that being associated with Twilight won’t necessarily kill your career, Canadian indie rockers Metric are set to release their fifth studio album next month.

New single, Youth Without Youth, is stompy homage to bitter teenage feelings, Emily Haines throwing her icy vocals over thumping drums and crunchy guitars.

It’s a heavy muscular, rock swell that threatens to spill over but never gets beyond the volume of the verse. You keep waiting for something for it to explode, but you are left frustrated that it never does.

It’s four minutes and 18 seconds of relentless drum stomp, the synths offer a bit of relief, but mostly you can’t breathe under the heavy beat.
