Joss Stone, “The High Road”
The Soul Sessions Vol 2
When the 16 year old Joss Stone blazed onto the the scene 10 years ago, her irrepressible blues growl seemed to steamroll everything in sight. It’s a big voice that nowadays is totally under her control, ready to be deployed at the sweetest moment.
Covering Broken Bells’ “The High Road”, Stone gives it a soul rough up, with tangy guitars melting beneath big vocal harmonies. As always, it’s Stone’s pipes that are on display, and they ring with a new maturity.
I’ve long been a Joss Stone fan….She did a great job on this cover!
I agree! I’ve read a lot of really harsh reviews of her cover, but I love it.
I adore this song! It’s tragic not many people know of broken bells. Stone has always been a fav of mine as well. Beautiful rendition.
